Abstract
Action research as a methodology of research was created as an attempt to carry out reforms in the field of education, as well as micro-reforms in pedagogical practices in the way that practitioners ‒ teachers, educators and associates ‒ examine established norms, theoretical settings and practical solutions which arise from the real circumstances of educational practice. The goal of this paper is to explore the possibilities of action research and its contribution to the improvement of educational practice. The specific objectives of the paper are the following: 1) to present different classifications of action research;
2) to analyze the characteristics of action research; 3) to examine the possibilities of action
research in the field of improvement of educational practice. The descriptive method and
content analysis technique were used. The results of the research offer a concise picture of
the characteristics and types of action research according to different authors, as well as
the possibilities of advancing pedagogical theory and practice, in the context of developing
a culture of quality in education.
