Item A common fixed point theorem for non-self mappings in strictly convex menger PM-spaces(2020) Nikolić, Rale; Ristić, Vladimir; Ćirović N.© 2020 Mathematical Institute Slovak Academy of Sciences 2020. In this paper we prove existence and uniqueness of a common fixed point for non-self coincidentally commuting mappings with nonlinear, generalized contractive condition defined on strictly convex Menger PM-spaces proved.Item A comparison of cardiac structure and function between female powerlifters, fitness-oriented athletes, and sedentary controls(2020) Radovanovic, Dragan; Stoičkov V.; Ignjatovic, Aleksandar; Scanlan, Aaron; Jakovljevic V.; Stojanović E.© 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aim: To compare echocardiographic parameters between female powerlifters, fitness-oriented athletes, and sedentary controls. Methods: A between-subject, cross-sectional experimental design was adopted. Echocardiographic parameters were measured in female powerlifters (n = 10; progressive overload 60%–95% of 1 repetition maximum [RM]), fitness-oriented athletes (n = 10; 50%–70% of 1-RM), and sedentary control subjects (n = 10). Comparisons were made with Kruskal-Wallis tests, one-way analyses of variance, and eta-squared (η2) interpreted as small = 0.01–0.06, moderate = 0.061-0.14, and large >0.14. Results: Large differences (P >.05) were observed between resistance-trained groups and sedentary controls, whereby relative wall thickness (RWT) and left ventricular (LV) index were greater in powerlifters (RWT: 0.40 ± 0.05, η2 = 0.15; LV index: 95.6 ± 13.6 g/m2, η2 = 0.15) and fitness-oriented athletes (RWT: 0.40 ± 0.05, η2 = 0.15; LV index: 97.9 ± 14.2 g/m2, η2 = 0.20) compared to sedentary controls (RWT: 0.36 ± 0.05; LV index: 85.9 ± 10.3 g/m2). Large differences were observed in intra-ventricular septal wall thickness (ISWT) and late diastolic velocity (a') between groups, whereby powerlifters exhibited lower a' (8.6 ± 1.2 cm/s) compared to fitness-oriented athletes (9.9 ± 0.9 cm/s, η2 = 0.26, P =.04) and sedentary controls (9.6 ± 0.9 cm/s, η2 = 0.19, P >.05), while fitness-oriented athletes exhibited greater ISWT (10.1 ± 0.7 mm) compared to sedentary controls (9.4 ± 1.0 mm, η2 = 0.16, P >.05). Conclusions: Differences in cardiac structure between powerlifters, fitness-oriented athletes, and sedentary controls suggest specific cardiac remodeling may occur in response to resistance training, without impairment of cardiac function.Item AFEKTIVNE STRATEGIJE UČENJA ENGLESKOG KAO STRANOG JEZIKA(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2019) Ćirković Miladinović, IvanaItem Alpska škola skijanja(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2020) Marković, Živorad М.; Milanović, Sandra R.In the history of physical education, there are different opinions about the origin of skiing, i.e. about the time when the first tools were used to enable people to move easier and faster on the snow in order to survive, and later as an aspect of physical exercising and competing. From the beginning until nowadays, skiing has experienced huge transformations which have been practiced through different skiing schools, equipment, as well as through different teaching methodologies. The Nordic skiing was invented before the Apine skiing. Hundreds of millions of fans enjoy the beauty of Alpine skiing. The development of tourism in various ski centers around the world has lead to the unification of different skiing techniques, and, accordingly, different teaching methodologies. The goal of this paper was to present the Alpine skiing school and the teaching methods for acquiring its basic elements.Item An exploration of acceptance of innovative computer use in teaching mathematics among pre-service class teachers and mathematics teachers(2016) Milutinović, Verica© 2016, Institute for Educational Research. All rights reserved. Innovative computer use enables the strengthening and transformation of teaching practice. Notwithstanding, numerous studies have indicated that teachers do not use computers in teaching mathematics to a sufficient extent. This study was aimed at exploring the reasons for insufficient computer use by teachers, i.e. at examining the variables which may affect the acceptance of innovative computer use in teaching mathematics. Hence, the intention to use computers in teaching mathematics in primary school was explored on the sample of 455 pre-service class teachers and mathematics teachers from Serbia. The technology acceptance model was extended by external variables and the following were observed as the predictors of intention to use computers in teaching mathematics: students’ attitudes towards computers, their perception of usefulness of computers in teaching mathematics, perceived ease of use, technological pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics, experience with use, subjective norms, technological complexity and content knowledge in mathematics. Structural equation modelling has shown that the proposed model had a good fit and that the selected variables were significant predictors of the intention to use computers. The proposed model explained 23.7% of variance in the intention to use computers. It has been shown that the intention to use computers is directly predicted by dominant technological pedagogical content knowledge in mathematics, students’ attitudes towards computers and their experience, while it is indirectly predicted by perceived usefulness, subjective norm, technological complexity and content knowledge in mathematics. In accordance with the presented findings, the final part provides recommendations that may be beneficial for advancing the education of pre-service class teachers and mathematics teachers.Item ANA ADžIĆ: SVEDOČENjE VRLINE LjUBAVI(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2019) Trifunović, VesnaThis paper explores circumstances and influences, primarily culturological, that may have been associated with Nadežda Adžić’s decision to become a nun. The aim is to examine the connection between N. Adžić’s decision to devote herself to God and the following elements that had influenced her decision: (a) education in the family; (b) influence of the church; (c) personal moral principles. Despite hard living conditions in the country devastated by wars, in which she had lost many of her loved ones, despite huge social, economic and cultural inequalities in Serbian society, Nadežda remained faithful to her own moral principles – sharing love and working for the glory of God and for the salvation of her soul. The abbess Ana has left a deep mark on her time, as inspiration to all those wishing to devote themselves to God. Using analytical method and case study method, the paper also gives a brief overview of the charitable role of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which had a crucial impact on Ana Adžić’s activities. The work of the novice Nadežda Adžić in the “Bogdaj” Children’s Centre in Bitola, under the auspices of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in the years before the Second World War, is an example of a God loving soul dedicated to serving others – weak, poor and abandoned, especially children. Her example proves that despair can grow into the appreciation for the gifts we have been given – it is a way of approaching God. Her constant effort to bring peace and joy to the lives of the children in “Bogdaj” through personal engagement determined Nadežda’s striving for monasticism. Such a commitment may have had its causes in the upbringing she took from her parents’ home, in the death of her brother Milovan in the Great War, in people’s sufferings caused by the war, in the post-war misery and poverty. Her determination may stem from all these causes, but her perseverance arises from the tenderness and sensitivity of her soul and, at the same time, her strength and determination to glorify God.Item ANALIZA MOTIVA I STILA PISAMA NADEŽDE ADžIĆ(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2019) Spasić, JelenaItem THE ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES TOWARD DISTANCE LEARNING AT THE UNIVERSITY(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2020) Golubović-Ilić, Irena; Stanković, Slađana; Aleksić-Veljković, AleksandraThe paper presents results of the research conducted at the FE in Jagodina upon the termination of the state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic in the Republic of Serbia. The research aimed to determine the attitudes of students (N = 87) about the quality of university teaching using Google Classroom and Zoom applications. Students fulfilled their pre-exam obligations in the Methodology of Environmental Studies and Methodology of Physical Education using the above applications. The research was conducted by applying descriptive and survey methods, with special attention paid to students’ competence to use Google Classroom and Zoom applications, student motivation and self-confidence, quality and understanding of materials from the aspect of applicability of acquired knowledge and the quality of pre-exam obligations (assignments) they had to fulfill during the state of emergency. The results show that the students recognized advantages of distance learning, that they did not have major difficulties using the applications, that such a mode of working has positively affected their motivation to participate in online teaching, and that they generally consider the given assignments interesting and useful for their future work with children. The research confirmed that the students’ attitudes toward the possibilities of raising the quality of teaching by applying electronic materials and modes of communication are positive, except that the quality and understanding of materials processed during the state of emergency should be reviewed and examined in more detail.Item Antologija literarnih radova učenika i studenata – od Učiteljske škole do Fakulteta pedagoških nauka(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2018) Jovanović, VioletaItem APPLICATION OF EXPERIMENT IN THE REALIZATION OF GEOGRAPHICAL CONTENTS IN THE FIRST CYCLE OF COMPULSORY EDUCATION FROM A TEACHER’S PERSPECTIVE(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2020) Džinović, Milanka G.; Živković, Ljiljana S.; Milanović, Nedeljko M.School experiments enable students to gain knowledge through direct practical activities. The aim of the research study was to obtain information on the scope of application of models, experiments and research, as methodical solutions, when processing geographical content in the teaching of social, environmental and scientific education. An empirical study was conducted to analyze the experiences of 117 teachers, in the first cycle of compulsory education in the Republic of Serbia, about the application of this work method. The results of the research indicate that teachers occasionally realize geographical content, in the teaching of social, environmental and scientific education, through experiments, even though the resources needed for their implementation are accessible to all students. Experiments can be applied to explain the essence of physical geographical phenomena and processes, however, their use in teaching involves the training of teachers to use them, which, unfortunately, was mostly cited by teachers as a reason for occasional application. Greater attention should be given to training future teachers to apply the experiments in order to use this method more often when working with students, where they would work as a team, be active, creative, think critically, identify and explain phenomena and processes and relate to examples from everyday life.Item APPLICATION OF PROJECT MODEL OF TEACHING IN INITIAL TEACHER EDUCATION – STUDENTS’ OPINIONS(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2018) Stojanović, Biljana J.; Ristanović, Dušan; Živković, PredragThe application of the project model of teaching in today’s education system becomes imperative, and it is necessary to implement it in the initial education of future teachers. In addition to the benefits, project teaching poses numerous challenges to teachers and schools. Accordingly, the aim of this research is to examine the attitudes of students of the Faculty of Education, about the application of project teaching and the advantages and disadvantages of this model. The research was carried out at the Faculty of Education, on a sample of 72 students of the second year at the department Teacher. The questionnaire, which was made for the purposes of this research, was applied. The questionnaire contained questions of open type and questions in the form of an assessment scale. The obtained results have shown that students-future teachers are aware of the benefits of project teaching and especially emphasize the contribution to the improvement of students’ social skills. As key problems in the implementation of project teaching, the interviewed students stated that: it requires a lot of time, it is necessary to align the project teaching with the curriculum and train the teachers for the use of this model. The results of this study point to the need for adequate training of future teachers in initial education, since the implementation of project teaching has become a mandatory part of the curriculum of teaching and education in primary schools.Item Applying qualitative methods for research with children: Challenges and prospects of doing interviews with young and very young learners(University of Priština, Faculty of Philosophy, 2018) Savić, Vera; Prošić-Santovac, DanijelaQualitative methods have increasingly been considered as a valuable approach in linguistic research, especially in the area of foreign/second language (L2) learning. In the field of teaching English as L2 to children, qualitative approaches are considered particularly suitable. The paper aims to answer a number of questions relevant to applying qualitative methods for research with children in teaching English as L2 by discussing recent studies conducted in Serbia at primary and pre-primary levels. The method applied in the paper is the analysis of interviews used to study primary learners' L2 reading development (Savić, 2017), and a pre-primary child's L2 progress (Prošić-Santovac, 2017). The former example is a prompted think-aloud protocol interview conducted with twelve 11-year old children for studying a number of issues relevant to their L2 reading skills, while the latter one refers to a structured interview conducted in a case study of using popular video cartoons for teaching English to a four-year-old child. The pedagogical implications of doing research with young and very young learners are summarized as challenges and prospects of using interviews for gaining a deeper understanding of children's L2 development, highlighting a variety of individual and contextual factors affecting the process. It is concluded that, with proper planning and application, qualitative research in general, and interviews in particular, may provide invaluable evidence on the processes of foreign language acquisition and learning.Item ATTITUDES OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE, PLACE AND ROLE OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY AND MATHEMATICS IN STEAM EDUCATION(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac, 2022) Gajić, Nenad; Cekić-Jovanović, OliveraThe natural connection between mathematics, natural and technical sciences should be present and visible through very intense correlations between the respective school subjects. In many educational systems, the field of STEAM is recognized, which implies a holistic approach and integration of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, physical geography), technical and engineering sciences (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, construction, hardware and software engineering), art and mathematics. The aim of the paper is to examine the views of elementary school teachers (N = 160) about the importance, place and role of modern technology and mathematics in STEAM education. The study discussed the basic theoretical starting points, possibilities and challenges of applying modern technology and mathematics in integrative STEAM teaching. Also, teachers’ attitudes were examined using the research survey technique, using as a research instrument an anonymous questionnaire created in the Google Forms web application as a five-point Likert-type scale. The research results confirm the positive attitudes of teachers about the importance of modern technology and mathematics in STEAM education. Also, the research results confirm that primary school teachers have positive attitudes toward and often apply modern technology and mathematics in STEAM classes for the preparation of materials, research activities and individualization of the teaching process. However, to a lesser extent, they attend professional development seminars focused on the application of modern technology in STEAM integrative teaching; there is a possibility to improve this important segment of education.Item Attitudes of Serbian and Slovenian student teachers towards causes of learning underachievement amongst Roma pupils(2013) Macura, Sunčica; Pecek M.The task of initial teacher education is to prepare student teachers (ST) to accept responsibility for improving the education of all pupils, including Roma pupils. Thus, knowledge of ST's attitudes regarding such pupils at the onset of initial teacher education is a key for the creation of teacher education programmes that challenge implicit beliefs and biases. The main focus of this paper, therefore, is ST's perceptions concerning the causes of learning underachievement amongst Roma pupils and who is primarily responsible for these pupils' learning achievement. Research was conducted at the Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and the Teacher Training Faculty at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. The results suggest that ST do not consider themselves likely contributors to Roma pupils' learning achievement, which leads to an attitude of minimal responsibility. The majority of ST attribute Roma pupils' learning underachievement to their parents' disinterest in schooling, Roma pupils' lack of motivation, and their non-acceptance by peers. The implications of these findings for teacher education programmes are subsequently discussed. © 2013 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.Item Attitudes of Students from the Faculty of Education on the Potentially Gifted Preschool Children(2021) Kadum S.; Kopas-Vukašinović, Emina; Miljković, AnaThis paper presents the results of a research aimed at examining attitudes of the students from the faculties involved in teaching (pedagogical faculties), future educators in preschool institutions, about the potential giftedness of preschool children and working with them. The research was conducted on a sample of 174 students, future preschool educators. It was implemented at the Faculty of Educational Sciences of Pula (Croatia) and at the Faculty of Education of Jagodina (Serbia). The results of the research confirm: that future educators are sufficiently and qualitatively educated to work with gifted children; that future educators would like to have gifted individuals in their preschool groups and would love to work with gifted children; that the relationship between gifted and other kindergarten children is harmonious and gifted children should not be separated into special kindergarten groups; gifted children are a valuable resource for the community, they do not have any difficulties in socialization and they do not waste time in a regular kindergarten, and they are not bored with such kindergartenItem Beijardov model profesionalnog identiteta nastavnika(University of Belgrade, Teacher Education Faculty, 2019) Živković, PredragThe aim of the research is to use logistic regression to determine the predictive and classification values of the three-dimensional Beijaard's model of teachers' professional identity (teachers as subject-matter experts, didactical experts, and pedagogical experts). Logistic regression as an analytical-statistical procedure for testing this model has not been done so far. The most important results of the research are as follows: the selected set of predictor variables for each element of the criterion variable gives good results in the model; the aggregate performance indicators of the model are within the required limits; the model classifies a satisfactory percentage of cases for all three elements of the professional identity model.Item Beliefs of Student Teachers About Their Competencies for Inclusive Education in Slovenia and Serbia(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2019) Macura, Sunčica; Čuk, Ivan; Peček, MojcaThe inclusive education policy requires prospective teachers to develop competencies to promote learning in all pupils. Having in mind that teachers’ beliefs are reflected in their practice, the present study aims to explore beliefs of fourth-year student teachers from Slovenia and Serbia about their own competencies relating to inclusive education. Specifically, the research questions are: 1) What are student teachers’ beliefs about their own competencies related to inclusive education? 2) Are there any differences in student teachers’ beliefs in relation to the country in which they are studying? The sample consisted of 135 student teachers enrolled at the University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Education in Jagodina and the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Education in Ljubljana. The instrument (questionnaire) contained 26 statements relating to eight areas of teacher expertise: setting the ‘learning to learn’ goal for all pupils; taking responsibility for the learning of all pupils; personalized learning approaches that support autonomy in learning; identifying and addressing barriers to learning; differentiation of curriculum content, learning process and learning materials; positive classroom management; formative and summative assessment and cooperative learning. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 22.0. The frequencies of each of the responses were calculated for each group of students (Slovenia and Serbia). Differences between the two groups of students were analysed with the χ² test. The results of the study suggest that the majority of student teachers participating in the study feel competent in the abovementioned areas of teacher expertise. The self-confident perceptions of competencies of student teachers from both countries are interpreted in the lens of theories of professional development and implications for further development of teacher education for inclusive education are provided.Item Beliefs of student teachers in Serbia and Slovenia about supporting vulnerable pupils in learning and social participation(2020) Macura, Sunčica; Čuk, Ivan; Pecek M.© 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group. The focus of this paper is a comparative analysis of student teachers’ beliefs about inclusive practices, i.e. how teachers should support vulnerable pupils. The study explores the differences between the beliefs of Serbian and Slovenian student teachers in the first and fourth years of their studies and the differences between first-year and fourth-year student teachers’ beliefs in each country. The results suggest that Serbian and Slovenian student teachers differ in their beliefs according to their study year and the country in which they live. Regarding the country, Slovenian student teachers tend to be more demanding of vulnerable pupils, while Serbian student teachers tend to be more permissive. Possible explanations for the differences between the two groups of student teachers may be found in the educational systems, educational legislation and teaching practices of the two countries. Implications for initial teacher education in both countries are discussed.Item Bibliografija časopisa Uzdanica(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2018) Čutura, IlijanaItem Can ability emotional intelligence help explain intercultural effectiveness? Incremental validity and mediation effects of emotional vocabulary in predicting intercultural judgment(2019) Altaras Dimitrijević, Ana; Starčević, Jelena; Jolić Marjanović, Zorana© 2019 Elsevier Ltd A review of the literature reveals that previous studies on the role of emotional intelligence (EI) in predicting intercultural effectiveness have focused solely on trait EI, i.e., self-reported emotional efficacy, and on emotion recognition, disregarding the core components of ability EI, particularly its understanding emotions branch. Considering this gap and arguing for the relevance of emotion understanding in intercultural communication, the present study examined whether emotional vocabulary (EV), a marker of the ability to understand emotions, predicts intercultural problem solving above verbal intelligence and personality, and whether it (partially) mediates their effects on the criterion. Participants were 336 university students from Serbia, assessed on EV, verbal intelligence, the Big Five, and intercultural judgment and decision making (CJDM). A hierarchical regression analysis found verbal intelligence, Openness, and Extraversion (Step 1), and EV (Step 2) to significantly predict CJDM, with EV incrementally explaining 2% of criterion variance. A path analysis yielded excellent fit indices for a model postulating EV as a partial mediator of the effects of verbal intelligence and Openness on CJDM. The study thus provides first evidence of the specific contribution of emotion understanding to solving intercultural communication problems, the implications of which for both EI and intercultural research are discussed.
