Item Evaluation of the beck depression inventory in a nonclinical student sample(2012) Ignjatović Ristić D.; Hinić, Darko; Jovic J.Depression is one of the most common psychological disorders in individuals seeking psychiatric treatment, and a frequent psychological disorder among patients who seek primary healthcare. Therefore, it is vitally important to employ reliable and valid diagnostic instruments and norms, both in clinical and research work to investigate this problem. This article is part of a larger study which has been conducted for ten years now with the aim to create a clearer picture about the level of depression which may be expected in the nonclinical population in Serbia, and in that way provide a basis for comparisons when diagnosing the clinical population. The subsidiary aims were to monitor potential changes in level of depressive reactions within the set time and to examine the psychometric properties and factor structure of the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) scale. The sample consisted of 782 students (40% male, 60% female), mean age = 23.10 years, SD = 1.782. Mean score on the BDI-IA scale was 6.69; SD = 6.412. The study showed no significant relationships between the BDI scores and sociodemographic variables such as age, economic status, and educational profile, but showed significant differences within gender (t (780) = 3.222, p = 0.001). There was also a relatively stable level of depressive reactions in this population over the previous ten years. The Cronbach's coefficient of the BDI scale was a = 0.860, with the majority of item-total correlations above 0.37. The three-factor structure represents cognitive aspect, affective component of depression, and somatic problems attached to depression. The cognitive factor prevails in the entire sample, which is in accordance with the Beck theory about dysfunctional attitudes, ie cognitive vulnerability is a psychological predisposition to depression. Slična situacija je dobijena i na kontrolnoj grupi osim niske korelacije sa uzrastom (r=- 0.253; p=.001).Item Validation of the Temps-A in university student population in Serbia(2013) Hinić, Darko; Akiskal S.; Akiskal K.; Jovic J.; Ignjatović Ristić D.Background and aims: The TEMPS-A scale is a self-evaluation measure which assesses five affective temperaments. This study is a comparative analysis of affective temperament types in different educational fields, and the first validation of the Serbian version of the TEMPS-A. Methods: The TEMPS-A questionnaire has been adapted following the translation-back translation methodology from English to Serbian. It was then administered to 770 undergraduate students from eight different faculties. Results: Five factors were extracted through Principal Component Analysis (Varimax rotation), each including ten items with loadings above 0.40. The internal consistency of this abbreviated 50-item scale was α=0.77 and the average test-retest coefficient (rho=0.82) indicates a stable reliability. The correlations among the temperaments ranged from weak to moderate, with the highest positive correlations obtained between the depressive and cyclothymic, and, depressive and anxious scales. The highest score was detected among the hyperthymic (0.64) and lowest among the depressive temperament (0.15). The male participants attained significantly higher scores for the hyperthymic temperament, while female scored significantly higher on the depressive and anxious temperaments. The students of physical education showed significantly lower results on the depressive and anxious subscales and higher on the hyperthymic, in comparison to other educational fields. Limitations: The student sample is not representative of the general population, therefore further investigation in older population would be necessary for the evaluation of norms in additional age categories. The external validation with other personality scales has not been the subject of this research, but will be a part of some future studies. Conclusions: The Serbian 50-item version of the TEMPS-A showed good overall internal consistency and reliability, and the results generally cohere with those from previously validated versions in other languages. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.Item Spanish teacher education programs and community engagement(2013) Jovanović, Ana; Filipović, JelenaTheories of situated knowledge support that knowledge involves experience of practices rather than just accumulated information. While an important segment of foreign language teacher education programs focuses on the theoretical component of second/foreign language acquisition theories and relevant methodological concerns, it is mainly through practice that novice teachers construct their new professional identities. Consequently, typical teacher preparation programs require a number of classroom practice hours, which is not easily carried out in the educational context where there is a limited number of target language courses; such is the case of Spanish language instruction in Serbia. This study presents examples of two service-learning programs aimed at providing teaching practice for pre-service Spanish teachers in Serbia, while answering to the needs and interests of specific communities. The theoretical and practical implications of this investigation may help outline a model of foreign language teacher education programs for social and educational contexts that lack a large-scale target language audience. Issues of future foreign language teachers' identity and cognition regarding the language education policy creation and the teaching process itself are also addressed.Item Towards validation of the short TEMPS-A in non-clinical adult population in Serbia(2014) Ignjatović Ristić D.; Hinić, Darko; Bessonov D.; Akiskal S.; Akiskal K.; Ristic, BrankoBackground and aims This study represents the standardisation of the Serbian version of the TEMPS-A scale on non-clinical adult population, as well as external validation with TCI-R scale of temperaments which has already been evaluated on Serbian population. Methods The TEMPS-A has been administered to 570 healthy adults without histories of mental disorders, 47% male, 53% female, aged between 20 and 76 (M=35.55; SD=14.14). In line with the state census data, the sampling was partially stratified according to gender, age categories, education and regional area of the participants. Results In contrast to many other studies, six factors were extracted herein, including 41 items with loadings above.50, explaining 44.40% of the total variance. The internal consistency of the scale was α=.83, and the average test-retest coefficient (rho=.82) indicates a stable reliability. The highest positive correlations were obtained between the depressive and cyclothymic scales, depressive and anxious scales, and cyclothymic with anxious scales. The highest values were detected on hyperthymic and the lowest on depressive temperament. The highest positive correlations were reported between harm avoidance (measured by the TCI-R) and depressive, anxious, cyclothymic temperament, and between novelty seeking and hyperthymic temperament. The highest negative correlation was detected between harm avoidance and hyperthymic. Finally, females scored higher on depressive, cyclothymic and anxious, while males scored higher on hyperthymic temperament. Limitations The participants educational background was slightly higher than that of the general population of Serbia. Since the scale is aimed at its administration in clinical population as well, it is necessary that its structure and validity be also tested on specific clinical subpopulations in the future. Conclusions The current study is significant in having confirmed that the TEMPS-A can be reliably and validly used in identifying affective temperaments in the adult nonclinical population in Serbia, which provides the basis and norms for future comparisons with clinical subpopulations. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.Item Vocabulary growth at tertiary level: How much progress can Serbian EFL learners make in a year?(2014) Danilović, Jelena; Grujić, TatjanaThe size of L2 learners' vocabulary, both receptive and productive, represents a vital concept in the field of L2 acquisition, given that it determines the degree of success in communication. The larger the vocabulary size of a learner is, the better his/her understanding and ease of communication in the target language. For this reason, a body of research focusing on the developmental process of lexical acquisition in L2 learners of various proficiency levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) in different teaching contexts is nowadays steadily expanding. A recent study aimed at investigating the relationship between lexical reception and production in Serbian L1 English L2 learners, English language majors, has indicated that production seriously lags behind reception. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to explore the growth in receptive and productive vocabulary size of B2-level (CEFR) English L2 learners, first year English majors, over a period of a single academic year. The data obtained reveal that the rich L2 input provided in Integrated skills classes, combined with other compulsory and elective courses predominantly held in English, has resulted in the learners' productive lexical knowledge developing faster than their receptive lexical knowledge. This outcome consequently affected the relationship between the learners' receptive and productive vocabulary size - the gap between the two narrowed.Item Nature, life and mind. An essay on the essence(2015) Marinković M.; Pajic, Sanja; Tomić O.Copyright © 2015 Via Medica. Background: Our long-standing scientific work and love to the fine art and nature for many years succeeded in making a unifying description of the three domains, at a time when a high specialisation in science, and even in art, has neglected the necessary entirety. Materials and methods: Some neurons of a rat cerebral cortex were labelled with true blue and photographed under a fluorescent microscope. A monkey brain was sectioned in the axial plane. Several slices of the human motor cortex were stained with cresyl violet. A cerebral hemisphere image was modified, and another image was created in Adobe Photoshop. Results: Some 10 billion years after the Big Bang life appeared on the Earth, reaching its peak with development of the brain. The humans started exploration of the local nature to survive, and the universe for psychological support. The antique philosophers Leucippes, Democritus and Heraclitus were the first to create a unifying atomic theory and to suggest the eternal movement of the matter. Newton and Kepler explained the movement of the celestial objects, whereas Einstein, Planck, Bohr, Hubbel, Howking and many others connected the quantum physics and elementary forces with the essence of the universe. Leonardo da Vinci, and later many others as well, united science and art. Philosophers and mathematicians created the phenomena which do not exist in nature. Conclusions: Nature designed the human brain, more complex than the universe itself, which in turn created millions of the artworks and scientific discoveries.Item Representations of lancet or phlebotome in Serbian medieval art(2015) Pajic, Sanja; Jurisic, Vladimir© 2015 Serbia Medical Society. All rightsreserved. The topic of this study are representations of lancet or phlebotome in frescoes and icons of Serbian medieval art. The very presence of this medical instrument in Serbian medieval art indicates its usage in Serbian medical practices of the time. Phlebotomy is one of the oldest forms of therapy, widely spread in medieval times. It is also mentioned in Serbian medical texts, such as Chilandar Medical Codex No. 517 and Hodoch code, i.e. translations from Latin texts originating from Salerno-Montpellier school. Lancet or phlebotome is identified based on archaeological finds from the Roman period, while finds from the Middle Ages and especially from Byzantium have been scarce. Analyses of preserved frescoes and icons has shown that, in comparison to other medical instruments, lancet is indeed predominant in Serbian medieval art, and that it makes for over 80% of all the representations, while other instruments have been depicted to a far lesser degree. Examination of written records and art points to the conclusion that Serbian medieval medicine, both in theory and in practice, belonged entirely to European traditions of the period.Item The meaning and interpretation of the Serbian discourse marker BRE(2015) Mišković Luković, Mirjana; Dedaic M.; Polomac, Vladimir© 2015 Elsevier B.V. Bre is a word whose origin is neither exclusively tied to the Serbian language, nor is it even derived from the elements of the South Slavic languages. Nonetheless, it has come to serve as a most prominent typically Serbian linguistic item to the extent that a number of people in the social networks in Serbia (e.g. Facebook) have been signed in with the discourse marker bre between the first and the last names, in the place of the middle name (e.g. Jovan Bre Marković).This small bre (as Kapor (1989:9) would qualify it with the Serbian adjective malo) - inconspicuous, as it were - has a potential of an important accompaniment to the tune of a Serbian expression, to use a music metaphor. This has presented us with a challenge worthy of a deeper investigation: bre, clearly, contributes to the meaning of an utterance in which it occurs, but the question is what kind of contribution.Working within the relevance-theoretic framework (Sperber and Wilson, 1986/95; Blakemore, 2002; Carston, 2002), we explore the issue of how this discourse marker contributes to the relevance of its host utterance. We conduct our analysis around the cognitive semantic distinction between conceptual and procedural types of meaning and the pragmatic distinction between explicitly and implicitly communicated assumptions by the speaker's utterance.Basing our findings on a corpus collected from Serbian newspapers and magazines as well as face-to-face exchanges, we conclude that bre is a procedural constraint on the construction of a higher-level explicature which expresses a speaker's particular attitude to the addressee.Item Localisation and types of cosmetic medical treatments-correlation with demographic characteristics of Serbian clients(2016) Stolic M.; Stolic D.; Hinić, Darko; Ignjatović Ristić D.© 2016, University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Science, All rights reserved. There is a growing number of cosmetic medical treatments in the Balkan region. Yet, this trend has not been closely observed in terms of the correlation between procedure characteristics and clients’ sociocultural and psychological characteristics. The aim of this cross-sectional/retrospective research is to establish the correlation of types of cosmetic procedures with basic sociodemographic characteristics of clients in Serbia. Each of 144 study subjects underwent a cosmetic treatment (320 in total) within the first three months of 2014, while the study was being conducted. The sample included 5 male and 139 female subjects, with the age range of 17–71 (38.87±10.722). Peaks of interventions have been detected in subjects aged 31-35 and 36-40; more frequently those were individuals with a higher level of education and their motive most commonly was of aesthetic nature. The majority of the subjects (44.44%) underwent only one intervention, while the average number of interventions per subject within the period of three months was 2.21±1.40. Face interventions were considerably higher in number than others, with a rising trend with age. The number of procedures in the area of the abdomen, breasts and thighs, rose with the increase of a body mass index. The most popular treatments included removal of stretch marks and fillers, mesotherapy and botulinum toxin. Due to ever-growing sociocultural pressure and a modern concept of life, women often decide on cosmetic therapy at the first sign of ageing and hormonal changes, with a downward age trend especially with respect to minimally invasive procedures, as well as the most visible body parts, the face in the first place.Item Psychometric properties of the rass scale in the Serbian population(2016) Milena J.; Hinić, Darko; Marija D.; Andrea O.; Katarina N.; Nemanja R.; Nataša P.; Dragana R.Item Improving listening comprehension skills relying on metacognitive strategies – Focus on vocabulary and specific l2 instruction(2016) Jerotijevic Tisma, Danica© 2016, Institute for Educational Research. All rights reserved. The present paper aims at investigating the application of an instructional method specifically focused on the expansion of metacognitive awareness and its effect on Serbian EFL students’ listening comprehension. The current study is a follow- up research of a similar study by Vandergrift and Tafaghodtari (2010). However, we sought to expand the previous research by investigating the relationship between the students’ current level of L2 (target language) vocabulary and listening test scores. Our study likewise differed in the sample of participants, the target language, teaching and testing material used, and the duration of the very experiment. To answer the proposed research questions we conducted an experiment with 57 Serbian secondary school EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners divided into experimental (n=27) and control group (n=30). The results of the pre- and post-tests of the two groups showed the beneficial effects of developing metacognitive strategies and the strong positive correlation between the level of vocabulary and listening comprehension. The paper underlines important pedagogical implications especially regarding the enhancement of metacognitive awareness and vocabulary proficiency of students in order to improve performance on listening comprehension tasks.Item Shaw's Joan of Arc and Heaney's Antigone as classically modern heroines(2017) Vlašković Ilić, BiljanaLiterary critics have paid little attention to the similar artistic goals of Bernard Shaw and Seamus Heaney, who were both critical of the state of humanity. This article examines various aspects of their work, focusing specifically on the employment of the classical form in Shaw's Saint Joan and Heaney's The Burial at Thebes. Since the essential action in Greek drama relies on discourse and verbal interaction, its form appealed to both Shaw and Heaney, who are remembered today as masters of the spoken word. This article shows that their use of classical forms and themes sheds light on the power politics of their respective times. While the two plays significantly differ, one being a bona fide history play and the other an adaptation of the famous classic, their authors share a common focal point: They want to cure humanity of a disease whose main symptom is the repetition of History's mistakes.Item Followership styles and job satisfaction in secondary school teachers in serbia(2017) Hinić, Darko; Grubor, Jelena; Brulić L.© 2016, © The Author(s) 2016. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of followership styles, and their connection with job satisfaction and satisfaction with extrinsic/intrinsic aspects of work in teachers. The sample included 206 secondary school teachers of three grammar and three vocational schools in three towns in Serbia. The results indicate that the most prominent followership styles were star followers (58.7%) and pragmatists (39.8%). Star followers attached greater significance to intrinsic aspects of work and reported a higher job satisfaction rate, while pragmatists placed more importance on extrinsic ones. Independent thinking correlated with intrinsic aspects of work and job satisfaction, and active participation with job satisfaction and both work aspects. The results also show that a higher degree of engagement (particularly when combined with economic satisfaction) predicted a higher level of job satisfaction. If dominant followership and motivational structures of teachers were learnt, the management of educational institutions would be improved because teachers who participate in making work decisions have a greater sense of empowerment and commitment to organizational goals. Although affected by types of personality, dominant followership structures of the teacher may be influenced during the course of professional training, thereby directing them towards the development of functional followership types.Item Healing and recuperation in Louise Erdrich’s story “The Bingo Van”(2017) Matović, Tijana© 2017, Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary. The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of Louise Erdrich’s short story, “The Bingo Van” (1990) as a representative work of her long-standing narrative attempt to use gambling as a way of addressing the possibility of change in Native American communities. The protagonist of the story, Lipsha Morrissey is a psychologically disoriented young Chippewa man, apparently focused on short-term goals, which ultimately reveal themselves as a corrupt version of the illusory American Dream. Lipsha is otherized and, as such, forced to accept the normative stamp of the culture of dominance, in Gerald Vizenor’s terminology. His healing power decreases as he becomes overwhelmed by the materialistic drive fueled by a prominent van-obsession. The sacred place is replaced with a pre-empted one, which brings about a moral devastation to Lipsha. His subsequent recovery progresses within a healing narrative, which enables a waking-up into a restful nothing—such an emptiness being vital in what Erdrich shapes as a powerful potential for recuperation.Item Affective temperament, social support and stressors at work as the predictors of life and job satisfaction among doctors and psychologists(2017) Jaredic, biljana; Hinić, Darko; Stanojevic, Dragana; Zečević, Snežana; Ignjatovic Ristic, Dragana© 2017, Institut za Vojnomedicinske Naucne Informacije/Documentaciju. All rights reserved. Background/Aim. Affective temperament, social support and work-related stresors belong to the group of life and job satisfaction indicators. The aim of this research was to examine predictive roles of the basic affective temperament traits, social support and work-related stressors in the feeling of job and life satisfaction among doctors and psychologists. Methods. The sample consisted of 203 individuals out of whom there were 28% male and 72% female doctors (61%) and psychologists (39%), 25-65 years old (39.08 ± 9.29), from the two university towns in Serbia. The set of questionnaires included Serbian version of the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris and San Diego autoquestionnaire version (TEMPS-A), Satisfaction with Life scale, Job Satisfaction Survey, short Interpersonal Support Evaluation List, and Source of Stress at Work Scale (IRSa) for estimating the frequency of stressors at work. Results. According to the existing norms our examinees are satisfied with their life, but considerably less satisfied with their work, specially with pay and benefits, while they are most satisfied with nature of work itself and social relations with co-workers and supervisors. Our results show that depressive and hyperthymic, and to some extent cyclothymic temperament traits of the affective temperament significantly predict 21% of life satisfaction variance. Situational factors, such as stressors at work and social support, are important in predicting job satisfaction (58% of variance) with no significant contribution of temperament traits. The analysis did not point out any significant relation of sex, occupation, and age with life and job satisfaction. Conclusions. Affective temperaments can be regarded as predictors of life satisfaction, but in order to better predict satisfaction the aspects of wider social surrounding and sources of stressors at work must be taken in consideration. Future studies should consider other indicators of life satisfaction such as family or health satisfaction, stressors outside of work situations, and negative aspects of caregiving, for example hyperactivation.Item ETIČKO PREISPITIVANjE IDENTITETA CARA ASE(University of Kragujevac, 2018) Vesković, ЈelenaThe paper will aim to analyse Emperor Asa, a short story belonging to medieval translational literature in which the main motif is the expiation of sin. Sin occurs due to the emperor’s misogynist tendencies towards the verses from the holy books that were written by a woman and his omitting them. Due to desecrating the holy books, Emperor Asa will be subjected to consequences of such a sinful act – through the movement within the time dimension in the alternative reality (of the dream), he will lose his title and find himself in a landfill dressed in rags. Through hunger, thirst, nakedness, and constant condemnation by the people he encounters, Emperor Asa will self-examine his identity and the uncertain reality in which he is located. The investigative discourse in this work is seen in the discursive elements of interrogation, evidence, presenting facts within the testimonies of witnesses, punishment and realisation of guilt.Item Is there anything wrong with the expression “a bunch of migrants”?(Faculty of Education in Jagodina, 2018) Tomić, GoricaBy analysing some of the syntagmatic lexical relations of the phrase “a bunch of”, the paper deals with the question whether the outbreak of public anger caused by David Cameron’s use of the phrase “a bunch of migrants” was understandable or not. In an attempt to answer this question, sources such as the contemporary dictionary definitions of the lexeme “bunch” (when used to refer to people) as well as the instances of its modern usage were used. The modern contexts were retrieved from the written corpus which included some of the UK broadsheet and tabloid newspapers analysed by means of a corpus analysis tool WebCorp. The results led to the conclusion that the said outbreak of anger was fairly justified as, besides very few instances of its neutral usage, the phrase “a bunch of” has a strong tendency to be used negatively and with dislike when describing groups of people.Item ПРАШКИ ПРЕПИС (Š 19) СЛОВА О ПРЕКРАСНОМ ЈОСИФУ(UNIVERSITY OF NIŠ, Center for Byzantine-Slavic Studies, 2018) Anđelković, MajaAs a genre, apocrypha were originated within the intercultural code. With its fragmentary and dynamic narration it enables an easier reception. Contrary to their noncanonical status, apocrypha were quite commonly rewritten and used for reading. Some of them are preserved in various manuscript traditions, in more than one form and editions, among which is The Letter on Venerable Joseph. The paper analyzes Prague transcript (Š 19) on Venerable Joseph, as one of the transcripts of the primary apocrypha collection in SerboSlavonic manuscript tradition. By analyzing the transcript, its place in the primary collection has been established, while its comparison with the three remaining transcripts highlighted editorial differences and specific changes. Likewise, stylistic features of the text have also been taken into account, as well as syntactic variations in stylistic features. The conclusion offers the edition of Š19 transcript.Item Mogućnosti e-učenja u nastavi likovne kulture(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Philology and Arts, 2018) Ilić, Vojislav L.In the classroom of the 21st century, the teaching of art culture is increasingly under constant external influences, so that the classroom is a place where students learn, explore, create and evaluate artwork. The richness of the information offered through the use of IC T is multiplied in many ways compared to the classical media. Today’s specialized classrooms for teaching fine arts can be described as a place of learning where students explore, create, and evaluate artwork. The use of computers in the teaching of fine arts is about traditional pedagogical concepts and practice, only using new media, using software to simulate traditional tools such as brushes and pens. Creating works with the help of IC T is a modern way of visual expression of students. Using different computer software and peripherals, students can create works of visual art (drawings, paintings, collages, 3D works, works of applied arts, architecture, photographs, animated and cartoons, films ...) that can arise during classes or work at home. The use of e–learning does not in any way mean the rejection of existing learning/teaching content, but only the improvement of the existing educational material, or its modernization. Modern media are not created and used in isolation from classical fine arts or in an isolated cultural context. Modern and traditional media should be used together by taking the best of both media.
