Item A critical analysis of the pisa mathematics tasks(2019) Markovic, Olivera; Pikula, Milenko; Zubac M.© 2019, FACTEACHEREDUCATION. All rights reserved. In this paper, the authors deal with a critical analysis of some of the problems associated with PISA testing in mathematics. First of all, the social, economic and political circumstances of the launch of the PISA project are pointed out. This is followed by an analysis of what the authors consider as very important concepts for understanding PISA philosophy, such as applicable knowledge and problem solving in a real-life situation. We compared two different ways of defining these concepts and showed what the consequences of learning and teaching mathematics are in each of the cases. The authors present the results of the research that was conducted with mathematics teachers, as well as teachers of other subjects. The research dealt with the determination of the importance and role of the mathematical tasks of the PISA test for students’ further mathematical education. The results of the research have shown that there is a significant statistical difference between the assessment provided by the teachers who do and those who do not teach mathematics. The paper also analysed some specific tasks that the students were solving in PISA tests. The authors point out some deficiencies and inaccuracies observed in the mathematics tasks on PISA tests, as well as the weaknesses of PISA testing itself.Item A solution to the inverse problem for the Sturm-Liouville-type equation with a delay(2013) Pikula, Milenko; Vladičić V.; Markovic, OliveraThe paper is devoted to study of the inverse problem of the boundary spectral assignment of the Sturm-Liouville with a delay. -y″(x) + q(x)y(α · x) = λy(x); q ∈ AC[0; π];α ∈ (0, 1] (1) with separated boundary conditions: y(0) = y(π) = 0 (2) y(0) = y′(π) = 0 (3) It is argued that if the sequence of eigenvalues is given λn(1) n and λn(2) n tasks (1-2) and (1-3) respectively, then the delay factor α ∈ (0, 1) and the potential q ∈ AC[0, π] are unambiguous. The potential q is composed by means of trigonometric Fourier coefficients. The method can be easily transferred to the case of α = 1 i.e. to the classical Sturm-Liouville problem.Item Abacus computing tool: From history to application in mathematical education(University of Belgrade, Teacher Education Faculty, 2020) Maričić, Sanja; Lazić, BojanBearing in mind that the history of mathematics and its discoveries can play a significant role in mathematics education today, the authors draw attention to an ancient computing tool - abacus, and point out its role, importance, values, and opportunities it offers in working with children. In order to achieve this goal and using the method of theoretical analysis, the authors researched the values of application of the Japanese abacus (soroban) in mathematics education through the following aspects: learning mental arithmetic, understanding the place value of a digit, contribution to working with children with developmental disabilities, primarily with visual and hearing impairments, as well as contributions to children's mental development and problem-solving abilities. Based on numerous research papers and views, the authors conclude that Japanese abacus can have many benefits in working with children in mathematics education, among which the most important are conceptual understanding of mental arithmetic and developing mental computation and problem-solving skills, gaining a clear mental picture of the structure of numbers, their magnitude and relationship, understanding the place value of a digit, but also developing motivation and positive attitudes toward mathematics.Item Afektivna vezanost u kontekstu kognitivnog razvoja - pedagoške implikacije(Faculty of Education in Užice, 2018) Luković, Slađana; Zlatić, LidijaIn psychology, affective and cognitive development are often observed and studied as different and separate processes. However, in the last decades, a different idea has been studied in psychology: the idea that the affective and cognitive development are related, that is, the affective relationship between mother and child in the early developmental period, which can be developed as safe or unsafe, is to a certain extent related to the development of cognition. The success of children in various cognitive tasks in relation to patterns of affective attachment, as well as their overall behavior during the test situation had been studied. The researchers also dealt with the question ofmediating mechanisms or mediators between affective and cognitive development. The text will first discuss the theory of affective attachment, and then the basic research findings from this field will be presented, as well as the possible mediating mechanisms or mediators in the relationship of affective attachment and cognitive development.Item Applicability of the developmental coordination disorder questionnaire for children in Serbia(2018) Golubović T.; Kalaba S.; Maksimović, Jelena© 2018, Specijalna edukacija i rehabilitacija (Beograd). The aim was to evaluate the applicability of the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ) adapted for use on the population of children in Serbia. The sample consisted of 901 children (age range 60-168 months) who did not have problems with coordination and the clinical sample of 58 children (age range 60-108 months). The parents assessed their child's coordination rating it on a 5-point Likert scale. Internal consistency of the instrument was 0.94, item-correlations were as high as over 0.70, test-retest reliability was good (r=0.97, p=0.00). The results revealed a significant positive correlation between the total questionnaire score and age (r=0.28, p=0.00). Factor analysis confirmed three-factor structure. The questionnaire had good sensitivity (98%) and specificity (78%). The DCDQ applied on Serbian children has a potential to be a reliable and valid instrument for screening children with coordination problems.Item BAJKA KAO JEZIČKI PREDLOŽAK U NASTAVI GRAMATIKE U MLAĐIM RAZREDIMA OSNOVNE ŠKOLE(Faculty of Education in Užice, 2019) Stakić, Mirjanahe paper analyses the functionality and illustrates the possibilities of using fairy tales as a language model for teaching grammar in lower elementary school. The examination of the functionality of fairy tales as a language model is based on a theoretical analysis of their genre characteristics, their influence on the development of student personality and their presence in the junior elementary curricula. The results indicate that this literary form is familiar and interesting to students, as well as that it has a significant aesthetic, cognitive and educational potential, which is why it belongs among prescribed content for the second, third and fourth grade of elementary school. Application possibilities described in the paper show that both the folktale and literary fairy tale may be used as a language model to teach grammar throughout lower elementary school. The main advantage of these models lies in the fact that a language phenomenon is placed in a context both familiar and interesting to the student. The results mentioned above suggest that fairy tales used as a language model not only enable us to achieve intra-curricular correlation, but to motivate students to adopt grammar content as well.Item Body mass index and motor status of preschool children(2020) Pelemiš V.; Pavlović, Slobodan; Nikolic, Ivko; Ujsasi D.© 2020, Pan - European University Apeiron. All rights reserved. The purpose of this study is to establish the existence of gender differences in motor skills in the preschool period as well as to check their nutritional status. The classification of their nutritional status has been per-formed based on their body mass index (BMI), based on the percentile values according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (2000). Total sample consisted of 188 examinees with average values of body height (BH=124.59 cm±5.76) and body weight (BW=24.32 kg±3.11) with average age of 6.39±0.44 years, out which boys (N=107) and girls (N=81). Non-experimental research design, ex post facto correlation research plan, has been used. The battery with seven motor tests according to Bala and Popović (2007), has been used in this research. The study results show that the prevalence of malnour-ished children is 10.64%, well nourished 72.34%, tending to become obese 9.57% and obese children 7.44%, also with the existing gender difference in motor abilities in fa-vour of better average values of boys in coordination, explosive and repetitive strength. The research results show that there is the satisfying percentage of normally nourished children and that the linearity of their nutritional status is in accordance with their motor status, growth and development. On the other hand, the perceived gender difference are present due to differentiation of motor abilities that occurs at this age. The authors point out that greater differences and variability regarding the level of nourish-ment and motor abilities of children can be expected only in prepuberty period, which will happen in the next phase.Item ČASOPISI DRUŠTVENIH NAUKA U SRBIJI IZMEĐU GLOBALNIH I NACIONALNIH INTERESA(Faculty of Education, Užice, 2020) Ilić Semiz, MarinaThe paper problematizes the current situation and development perspectives of social science journals in Serbia in the context of global (international) and national interests. Scientific articles in national social science journals are commonly the most prevalent form of dissemination and production of scientific knowledge, standpoints and views, a clear indicator of research excellence of university teachers, as well as the indicator of the quality of scientific journals, and the quality of scientific research in general. Therefore, it is not surprising that national and global interests and values intertwine in the domain of national journals. The reference framework for the analysis of selected issues is placed within the range of existing scientometric and bibliometric research, as well as the legislation referring to scientific research, manner and procedures for the evaluation of research results, and election to academic titles. The analysis we conducted led to the general conclusion that national social science journals are in a gap between the national and global context. Although their significance is beyond question, by promoting national and cultural values and interests, they exist as insufficiently competitive and globally invisible media for transfer and valorization of scientific knowledge in the academic community. In addition to analyzing the implications of the current education policies, editorial policies of the journals and strategic solutions aimed at raising and evaluating the quality of national social science journals, and integrating them into global information system trends, the paper also proposes potential directions for further development of national social science journals as a prerequisite for raising scientific productivity in the domain of social sciences.Item Child rights in primary schools – The situation and expectations(2019) Stamatović, Jelena; Cicvarić J.© 2019, University of Ljubljana. All rights reserved. School is the most suitable place for students to learn about child rights and where these rights are to be respected. In the research we have conducted, the objective was to examine the knowledge of primary school students about the rights of the child and to obtain insight into how these rights are respected. Using an interview scaling technique, we questioned 351 final year primary school students and 231 teachers. The students did not rate their knowledge of child rights highly: they mostly expect teachers to provide them with information on child rights; the students obtain the majority of such information in the civic education classes, which is an optional subject and is not attended by all students, as well as in homeroom sessions. Teachers believe that it is the responsibility of homeroom teachers to familiarise students with the rights of a child. The rights to freedom of expression of students and their participation in decision-making are the least respected, according to both students and teachers. Furthermore, all believe that some forms of discrimination exist in schools. We have found especially significant suggestions and recommendations given by students and teachers to overcome the existing problems and provide better access to the rights of the child in school.Item ČITALAČKE PREFERENCIJE UČENIKA MLAĐEG ŠKOLSKOG UZRASTA(University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Philology and Arts, 2019) Puric, Daliborka; Stojanović, BubaThis paper focuses on the issue of reading preferences of younger elementary school pupils and the goal is to examine them as well as the possibility of peer-based encouragement of reading interests. By surveying pupils (N=235) of the third and fourth grade, authors examine (a) their attitudes to reading, (b) their preferences to different literary content, (c) pupils’ reading affiliations as an element of peer encouragement of reading interests. The results of the survey show that the majority of younger elementary school pupils like to read, but the third-grade pupils are showing more reading interests compared to fourth-graders. Pupils at the beginning of school prefer reading about wonderful and exciting events and experiences. The peer’s recommendation implies that the surveyed pupils prefer to read prose and poetry, while they show the least interest in drama texts. Regarding prose genres, they usually choose fairy tales, novels and fables. The development of a lifelong love towards books as one of the tasks of teaching literature can be achieved by fostering positive attitudes towards reading, respecting pupils’ reading preferences, enabling and encouraging the exchange of experiences about the read content in peer interaction. Research findings clearly show that there are predispositions for each of these elements, and it is on the teacher as a planner, implementer and evaluator of the teaching process, to create an incentive environment for developing pupils’ reading culture.Item Comparative analysis of the approach to music education in the methods of Edgar Willems and Maurice Martenot(Faculty of Education, Užice, 2021) Tanasković, MarijaThe paper presents a comparative analysis of the Willems method and the Martenot method, bearing in mind their attitude towards music education. The richness of each method, especially when it comes to gaining practical experiences in music education, can be a very important basis for improving general music education today, as well as learning in the field of music. These methods are characterized by specific characteristics and approaches related to aspects of rhythm, melody, harmony and body movement, but also the integration of contents of other arts. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to present the specifics and advantages of both methods, based on the analysis of the way in which each of the methods is conceived - starting points, understandings of music education, theoretical foundations of both methods, phases of work and used materials, and the role and importance of teachers.Item Comparative study of motor performances of the boys with different body mass indices(2019) Goran, Sekeljic; Stamatovic, Milovan; Martinovic D.; Pelemiš V.© 2019, FACTEACHEREDUCATION. All rights reserved. The goal of this study is to compare motor abilities of the boys with different body mass indices and determine whether the children are obese or overweight, and to what extent their motor skills are inadequate in comparison to normally nourished children. The sample consisted of 180 grade four students, aged 10 (±6 months), from five primary schools in Užice (The Republic of Serbia). On the basis of the BMI results, the sample was divided into four subsamples: malnourished (N=30), normally nourished (N=90), pre-obese (N=30) and obese (N=30). The evaluation of nine motor abilities was conducted by the battery of eighteen tests. The examinees from the group of the malnourished children (AW) achieved the lowest score in 7 out of 18 tests. The group of normally nourished children (NW) did not achieve the worst average score in any of the tests, and in 10 out of 18 tests they achieved the best average score. The group of pre-obese ones (OW) achieved the best average score in 8 out of 18 tests, and the group of obese participants (OB) achieved the lowest average scores on 11 out of 18 tests, and they did not achieve the best average scores in any of the tests. The research results indicate that the groups of pre-obese and obese persons have certain problems in motor dimension in the segment which is related to the showing of muscle strength and power, in the segment of showing speed and in the segment of balance.Item CONTENT COMPONENTS OF THE CONVENTION OF THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD AND FOLK PEDAGOGY IN FUNCTION OF PUPILS DEVELOPMENT(Faculty of Education in Užice, 2018) Marinković, Snežana; Marinković, Teodora; Zlatić, LidijaThe content components of the curriculum of children's rights learning: knowledge, values, skills, indicate that the value aspect is dominant in education for the rights of the child. Teacher education is also value-colored and under the influence of personal and explicit theories about the development and learning of the child. Socialization, upbringing and education are based on intuitive theories about the nature of the child and childhood. These theories are partly personal attitudes, and partly a result of an archetypal, rooted cultural code. This paper discusses the image of childhood and child seen through Serbian folk pedagogy and the idea of child and childhood from the perspective of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. By the content analysis method we came to the socialization forms that carry a cultural product such as the Convention of the Rights of the Child and the forms we find in folk tales and proverbs. This paper points out pedagogical values of both models, their diversity, as well as the ability to implement the values that both models carry in school context and in initial education of teachers in Serbia.Item Cooperative learning in online class teaching of mathmatics(Slovenska Vzdelavacia a Obstaravacia s.r.o., Nitra, 2022) Lazić, Bojan; Maričić, Sanja; Marić, Mia; Mrdja, MirelaThe aim of the paper is to examine the opinion of teachers about the representation and limitations of the application of collaborative learning in online teaching of mathematics. The survey conducted on a sample selected from the population of primary school teachers in R. Serbia (N=116), and data were collected about cooperative learning in online mathematics classes. The results showed that the majority of teachers apply group work, and less often online teaching. They believe that it is possible to organize collaborative learning in online mathematics classes in lower grades, but that there are certain limitations in the realization of this way of teaching. A small number of them have realized such activities through online classesItem Derivation in English: Names of professions and their translation into Serbian(Faculty of Education in Užice, 2018) Ljubičić, GordanaDerivation is one among the many processes of word-formation in English. It is a word-formation process by which a new word is produced from an already existing one by adding affixes (prefixes, infixes or suffixes) to a base. Affixes are also added to a base in the process of inflection, but in the case of inflection, it is not a new word that is produced, but only a grammatical variant of an already existing word. The paper discusses the affixes (suffixes mostly), which are used to produce the words denoting professions in English. It also deals with the new professions that are appearing every day due to the changes in all areas of human life and how the English language produces the new terms to cover these new needs. The point is that the names of all those professions are hard or even impossible to translate into Serbian, so the job of a translator is to discover the ways of how to find the best solution for the problem either by inventing a new term, or more often by adapting the foreign words to follow the rules of the Serbian language, which is not an easy task to do.Item Dete i odrasli u svetlu fenomenoloških shvatanja M. Merlo-Pontija(University of Belgrade, Teacher Education Faculty, 2018) Eric, Milomir; Marinković, SnežanaThe paper offers an analysis of the child-adult relationship problems in the context of the phenomenological psychology and pedagogy of M. Merleau-Ponty. The authors first outline Merleau-Ponty's key philosophical standpoint on which he builds his views on psychological and pedagogical problems. The paper focuses on the problem of understanding a child's world and the possibility of communication between children and adults, as well as on the problem of children's perception of the world around them. The authors also look at Merleau-Ponty's criticism of Piaget's views on the above-mentioned problems.Item Developing an Assessment Scale for the Characteristics of Cooperative Learning in Language Teaching(2022) Ilić Semiz , Marina; Antonijević, RadovanThis paper describes the development and metric traits of a new research instrument used to examine teachers’ assessments of the characteristics of cooperative learning in language teaching in junior grades of primary school (class teaching). We integrated findings obtained through a social-psychological approach on cooperative learning and socio-constructivist outlooks on contemporary teaching and learning into the structure of the Questionnaire – Teacher’s Assessment Scale (Q-TAS). In addition, the starting point for the scale’s development was the analysis and appraisal of existing instruments based on self-reports or reports of the respondents on the implementation of cooperative learning, particularities of language teaching and class teaching, as well as theoretical analysis of the construct of cooperative learning. The survey included 240 teachers of the fourth grade of primary school who implement cooperative learning in Serbian language classes from 14 districts of Serbia. In line with the theoretical structure of cooperative learning’s characteristics, we designed four subscales: Structuring a cooperative task, Forming cooperative groups, Principles of cooperative learning, and Roles and activities of teachers and pupils. The scale’s reliability as a whole, as well as the reliability of its constituent subscales was examined by measuring internal consistency, whereas the structural validity of the subscales was examined by means of exploratory factor analysis. In general, given the findings on the reliability and validity of the subscales, we can conclude that the Questionnaire-Teacher’s Assessment Scale has satisfactory metric traits, i.e. it is a reliable and valid instrument for examining the characteristics of cooperative learning in current language teaching. Finally, we offer critical assessment and recommendations for further improvement of the developed instruments.Item Developing and fostering creativity through the works of art by young pupils(2017) Selakovic, KristinkaThe aim of this experimental research was to examine the effectiveness and impact of active observation of the work of art by applying specially designed strategies, methods and procedures to the development of general artistic creativity in pupils. The research was conducted on a sample of 199 pupils (the experimental group consisted of 102 pupils, and the control group of 97 pupils) from two primary schools in Užice (Serbia). The conclusions indicate how important it is for children to access the work of art on a personal level, independently and through interaction, as well as to develop their own concepts.Item Dotted grid and square grid in teaching geometry in lower grades of elementary school(Faculty of Education, Užice, 2021) Maričić, Sanja; Stojkanović, JelenaThis work aims to underline the advantage of use of dotted grid and square grid as auxiliary tools for visualization in adoption of basic notions in geometry and problems solving in geometry in lower grades of elementary school. Visualization is an important part of cognitive process in mathematics while square grid and dotted grid help students visualize mathematic tasks therefore being significant. Although they are used in every grade of the initial four grades of primary school in the process of teaching geometry topics, neither students nor teachers use their advantages to a sufficient extent. The advantages of their use have been confirmed in the research conducted with the students of second and fourth grade in two primary schools. By analyzing of the obtained test results, we concluded that the use of the square grid increases the success in problem solving. Considering that notebooks with a square grid are used in mathematics teaching, the square grid should be used especially in the field of geometry.Item Education through play in the field of music: Contribution of Montessori method(Faculty of Education in Užice, 2018) Ivanović, Marija; Sudzilovski, DanijelaAn important area of modern education is music education, through which children acquire knowledge and skills. Music is also an important tool that fosters the development of personality, intellectual, physical and psycho-motor development, the development of language, emotional and social development. It also represents the means by which the individual expresses himself. Since the idea of modern education is to keep the child at the forefront of attention, it is supposed to use methods that facilitate learning, develop creativity and encourage research among children. Those methods should also encourage children to participate actively in the process of learning and acquiring knowledge. A play appears as spontaneous activity that is fun and initiated by desire of child, with flexible rules. A child is playing even if it is not aware of the motive of its activity. In educational terms the greatest value of play is that it is able to attract and keep the children's attention on intended contents, as well as to motivate them to participate actively in certain activities. Therefore, some educators today call for a constructivist approach to education-education through play. Because of playful activities and sensory didactic materials, the idea of freedom and of child who "builds" itself, the method of Maria Montessori can be used to improve the education in the field of music. The paper discusses education through play at preschool age in the field of music on the example of Montessori method.
